Locking apps
An app I picked isn’t locking.
Open Thirstgate, tap Edit next to “Behind the glass”, and pick the app by name instead of picking its whole category. Messaging apps like Messenger, Snapchat and WhatsApp can slip past a category lock, especially if they’re on Screen Time’s “Always Allowed” list. Also check Settings › Screen Time › Apps with Screen Time Access and make sure Thirstgate is turned on.
Tapping “Drink to unlock” on a locked app sends a notification instead of opening Thirstgate.
iOS doesn’t let a locked-app screen open another app directly, so Thirstgate sends a notification. Tap it to go straight to the drink screen. Make sure notifications are allowed for Thirstgate in Settings › Notifications.
My apps opened after I reached my goal.
That’s by design: once you reach your daily goal, your apps stay open until midnight. If you’d like them locked again, tap “Lock my apps anyway” on the Today screen.
How do I stop Thirstgate locking my apps?
Remove the apps under “Behind the glass”, or turn off Thirstgate in Settings › Screen Time › Apps with Screen Time Access. Deleting Thirstgate also removes every lock it set.
Drinking and camera checks
Does the camera record me?
No. The camera check runs entirely on your iPhone. Frames are analysed in memory and thrown away straight after. Nothing is recorded, saved or sent anywhere.
The camera check didn’t accept my drink.
Use a clear glass with water you can see, hold the phone at face height in good light, and keep your face and the glass in the frame while you drink. Strict mode also asks you to turn your head, so follow the dot on screen.
Why can’t I log more glasses?
For your safety, Thirstgate stops logging at 1 litre in an hour and 3.5 litres in a day. Drinking a lot of water very quickly can be harmful.
Streaks and milestones
How does a streak freeze work?
With Thirstgate Plus, one missed day a week is covered automatically, so your streak carries on. The frozen day shows a snowflake in your week.
Subscription
How do I cancel Thirstgate Plus?
On your iPhone, open Settings, tap your name, then Subscriptions, then Thirstgate. You can cancel any time; Plus stays on until the end of the period you’ve paid for. If you’re on the free trial, cancel at least 24 hours before it ends to avoid being charged.
I paid but Plus isn’t on.
Open the Plus screen in Thirstgate and tap “Restore purchases”, signed in with the same Apple Account you paid with.
How do I get a refund?
Payments are handled by Apple, so refunds are too. Request one at reportaproblem.apple.com.
Your data
Where is my data kept, and how do I delete it?
Your water logs, goals, streaks and locked apps stay on your iPhone. Thirstgate has no accounts and no servers. Deleting the app deletes all of it. To measure our ads, the app sends Meta a few events like “started a trial”; see the privacy policy for details.
